Dr (Cdr) Arnab Das was invited to deliver a seminar on the topic ‘Military Applications of Autonomous Unmanned Underwater Vehicles’ at Annual Technology Update Workshop organized by Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval) on 22 December 2020.

UDA Workshop at Kochi was a very good interaction with the stakeholders. Navy and DRDO are focused on the security perspective. MRC was given due credit fo initiating the UDA discourse in the country. ASW School at Kochi initiated the interaction with a presentation on the present status of UDA in the Navy.As a host they effectively set the tone for a meaningful discussion on the way ahead. MRC gave a detailed presentation on the UDA framework proposed by them and brought out how it was aligned with the global as well as national strategic vision. NPOL Kochi presented their plan for the future and claimed to be focused on the national requirement of UDA. it is extremely satisfying that UDA is gaining momentum across stakeholders.

The Chief Of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh PVSM, AVSM, ADC met Founder & Director MRC for an hour on 05 Aug and discussed UDA framework. Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar AVSM, VSM, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral M S Pawar AVSM, VSM Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral M A Hampiholi AVSM, NM, DGNO and close to 6 Principal Directors from relevant directorates were present. A very positive intraction and extremely encouraging for MRC to be able to present UDA framework and discuss joint way ahead. CNS directed Director MRC to submit a brief on the proposed way ahead. The meeting was facilitated by the National Maritime Foundation (NMF) as part of the MoU we have. Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan (Retd), Director General NMF started the interaction by reiterating the importance of UDA.

11 Students belonging to various streams, across all the campus of BITS pilani, joined us for their PS1 internship which laster between 21 May 2019 to 14 July 2019. Each handled independent reserch problems and succesefully completed the milestones alloted to them. Their research notes have been uploaded in the Research Area of our website. It was a pleasure having you with us.

MRC signing an MoU with National Maritime Foundation Delhi and Haifa University and HMS Israel in the side-lines of the Indo Pacific Regional Dialogue 2019 organized by Indian Navy and the NMF. Important milestone for us to take the UDA framework forward at the national, regional and global level.

The MRC organized a one day seminar at the Savitribai Phule Pune University on the 25 Aug 2018 with the title “Underwater Domain Awareness Framework for an Effective realization of the Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)”. The Chief Guest for the event was the Honourable Raksha Rajya Mantri, Shri Shubhas Bhamre and many senior dignitaries from the stakeholders and academia. Over 200 participants attended the event and took part in the deliberations. The two Key Note speeches were delivered by Lt Gen VG Khandare (Retd) Former DG Defence Intelligence and Shri Pradeep Rawat, Chairman National Shipping Board. There were two focussed session on Security and Blue Economy, Chaired by Vice Admiral SCS Bangara (Retd), Former C-in-C in the Indian Navy and Dr. Satheesh C Shenoy, Director INCOIS respectively.

The young India is a very critical asset that we all talk about today and globally India is being recognized as an emerging nation that cannot be ignored on any front. UDA Summer School was a six weeks Summer Internship wef 04 Jun till 14 Jul 2018, for under/post graduate students undergoing technology programmes. It was a multi-disciplinary project-based programme to expose the participants to multiple issues of the technology based real world problem solving. It was driven by the UDA framework in the IOR.

A one day workshop was conducted at the Southern Naval Command on the 13 Dec 2017. The event was organized by the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) School at Kochi, however the participants (over 250) came from various units and establishments of the Navy all across the country. The C-in-C, Vice Admiral A R Karve participated in the entire workshop and subsequently made it a Commanders Conference point for evaluation of the merits of UDA at the top level.

The CII organized a one day seminar in collaboration with the Naval War College at Goa on the 08 Nov 2017. The topic for the seminar was National Security Challenges and Opportunities for India. Director MRC was one of the speakers on Geo-politics of UDA. The UDA framework and the opportunities for Corporate India was well covered by him. The former Defence Minister and Chief Minister of Goa Shri Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Guest for the event

MRC felicitated the Chairman National Shipping Board Shri Pradeep Rawat on the 02 Nov 2017. A detailed presentation on the UDA framework was made to him and comprehensive deliberations in presence of senior representatives from the stakeholders was undertaken. The dignitaries present were Shri Pramod Choudhary, President MCCIA, Vice Admiral DSP Varma (Retd), Former DG ATVP, Shri Anil Deoli CEO INSA and more.

Sediment classification in reservoirs, lakes, rivers and many other water systems is a critical component of the resource management efforts in these water bodies.Precise sediment classification is important for multiple stakeholders. The import of sophisticated technology has failed to give us good results as the medium fluctuations are characteristic of our local conditions and significant indigenous efforts are required to understand these limitations and improve our underwater domain awareness. The proposed workshop attempts to address these issues with a comprehensive framework of modelling and simulation along with field validation
